Nonprofit Partner Center tools are moving to the Official Nonprofit Cause

In the coming weeks, Causes is working to move the extra tools that nonprofits have available in the Nonprofit Partner Center (nonprofits.causes.com) to the dashboard on the Official Nonprofit Cause. This means that nonprofits will be able to manage their Causes presence all in one place: no extra log in, no extra tab open, just one place to run and learn from your campaigns.

If you haven't already, be sure to designate an Official Cause (here are instructions to do so). This will be the Causes community that you will be able to message and run campaigns with moving forward, so if you're having trouble choosing between a few of the causes that benefit you, just file a ticket with our team and we'll help you figure it out. In special cases, we can also give you leader privileges on some of the causes that support you so that you can continue to reach out to that community.

Make sure that someone from your nonprofit is a leader of your Official Nonprofit Cause so that you can access the dashboard to manage your community going forward (we can help you with this too, just file a request. Once you've done that, you're all set!

How will the newest changes affect nonprofits which use "fundraising projects"? These fundraising projects have been an important way for us, as a fiscally sponsored organization, to raise funds separately from our fiscal sponsor.

Great question, Noah. The fiscal sponsor will be able to create Donate actions for each nonprofit that they sponsor and these will behave just like fundraising projects. You can feature a Donate action on your cause, search for your fiscal sponsor, then choose the project that the fiscal sponsor set up for you and add your own title and description. When the partner center shuts down, all of the active fundraising projects for a nonprofit will be ported over into Donate actions so there will be nothing new to set up.

Thanks for your reply, Sydney, but I must say this is all very frustrating.

  •  I've created a Donate action herehttp://www.causes.com/causes/223203-outloud-radio/actions/1600266.
  • I selected the project that the fiscal sponsor set up for us. Before the Causes redesign, this would result in our organization's logo (that of outLoud Radio, the "fundraising project") being displayed more prominently than our fiscal sponsor's (LYRIC, the nonprofit). That was good! Now, our donors are confronted with a giant logo (our fiscal sponsor's) that they're unfamiliar with, and told that their money is going there. This is bad!

Unfortunately, it seems we've taken a step backward here. Please reinstate real support for fiscally sponsored organizations.

I understand your frustration, Noah, and I'm sorry that the new system isn't as friendly to fiscal sponsored orgs like yours. We're continuing to refine these tools and will try to continue to improve the experience. For instance, soon there will be more media available for each give action so they will look more like the fundraising project page and hopefully detract some of the attention from the logo of your fiscal sponsor. Please continue to give us your feedback, we really appreciate it and want to make Causes work for you!

Hi, I'm having trouble linking my nonprofit to my cause. My nonprofit is registered LymeLight Foundation, and when I'm "creating an action" to "give money" so I can link my cause and the foundation, it comes up on the page's nonprofit search. But when I finish all of the parts on the page and click enter, an error code comes up. It says "we couldn't create that action" and underneath it says "campaign can't be blank". But nothing is blank! Can someone please help me fix this? My birthday is March 20th and I'm doing this so I can start a birthday wish to raise money for the foundation. Thank you.

Hi there. Sorry for the confusion but it looks like the LymeLight Foundation is not an eligible beneficiary in our system. There are two things that you need to set up in your Guidestar profile to enable donations on Causes: online donations & sharing information with partner organizations. Please review your Guidestar settings and make sure to set these two things. When you do, you should be able to search for your nonprofit when you create a Wish.

Hi,

I created a cause, but am waiting to start campaigning until my nonprofit joins so I can collect donations for them.  The nonprofits.causes.com page is still not allowing them to register an account.  Any updates on when they should be able to register?  Thanks.

Hi Cory,

While the registration process for new nonprofits is still down, you can always start fundraising for your nonprofit on your current cause.  Just create a Donate Action by clicking "Post an Action" on your cause page and linking to your organization by searching for your EIN.  Please learn more about our fundraising tools here.  Thanks for using Causes!

Do you have a date for the non profit sign up to be launched?

Hi Andy,

Registration for nonprofits to become official causes is back!  First, post a Donate Action on your cause and link to your nonprofit's EIN.  Once your fundraiser is created, go to "Mange My Cause" and claim your official cause as an employee of your organization.  Thanks for your patience.
